A Dowagiac man convicted of secretly recording underage girls undressing in his home has been sentenced to serve the next five years in prison.

According to the Niles Daily Star, James Heidenreich, 57, was sentenced on March 1 in Cass County Circuit Court to a serve a minimum term of three years for felony child sexually abusive activity in addition to two more years for felony firearm possession.

In Dec. 2012 a jury found Heidenreich guilty of one misdemeanor and 10 felony counts after he secretly videotaped a teenage girl.

Heidenreich had placed two hidden cameras inside his home—one in the bedroom where the daughter of his girlfriend was staying and a second in the master bathroom.

Testimony at his trial revealed that his girlfriend stumbled upon a D.V.R. disk in his jacket pocket which contained video of a 17-year-old girl, who was a close family friend, taking off her clothes before using a shower in Heidenreich’s bathroom.

During the trial he admitted to setting up the cameras but claimed they were to capture evidence of illegal drug activity and not to film the girls. Investigators did find guns and marijuana plants when they searched his home after police were called.
