Donnelly vows to support food assistance programs after taking Senate seat

Senator-elect Joe Donnelly made a stop in his home county Sunday after a busy weekend traveling to events throughout the Hoosier State.

During his stay in South Bend, Donnelly toured the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, which serves six local counties.

He vowed to help create more jobs and to continue to support federal food assistance programs once he takes his Senate seat.

“Every day you say a little prayer that the need will go down. But I'm very hopeful that next year, we've seen the unemployment rate come down, we hope that continues to come down, but there is always a need, and it is from end of the state to the other, from one end of the country to the other, in neighborhoods you might never think you might find someone in need,” says Donnelly.

On January 3rd Donnelly will be sworn into the U.S. Senate, he says he hopes his efforts in Washington will help reduce the number of Michiana residents who rely on the food bank for assistance.
