Basketball season is in full swing from the MBA, to college and high school hoops, but a group of Elkhart servicemen took to the court to play a slightly less orthodox version of the game.

The Sunday match-up pinned police officers versus firefighters, with a few donkeys thrown into the mix. The Donkeyball game in Elkhart is in its fourth year, and helps raise money to donate to Dollars for Scholars.

The officers had to try to score while riding donkeys, a feat which turned out to be easier said than done.

“It gets pretty competitive,” said the event’s coordinator Matt Stemm, “but some of the donkeys aren’t... they don’t like to have people riding them. You see a lot of people falling off, there’s a lot of laughs and a good time.”

Dollars for Scholars raised over $5,000 every year for the past three years to help Elkhart students pay for college.
