Dog found after over year being lost

Elkhart County, Ind. The Humane Society of Elkhart County was recently contacted by local law enforcement regarding two animals abandoned in a home and living in unsanitary conditions. One of the animals was a lovable collie that fortunately had a microchip. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the owners of this dog named, Emma, had reported her missing more than 1 ½ years ago. The Humane Society was able to contact the owners to confirm they were missing this dog and to share the good news.

The dogs owners were able to come to the shelter Wednesday where a happy reunion of dog and family was appreciated by all.

It is not unusual for the Humane Society to discover lost animals days, months and even years after they have been lost and to reunite them with their families. We encourage owners to ensure they have microchipped their pets to support the return of these animals to their rightful owners.
