Doctors in friendly competition to bring awareness to men's health

South Bend, Ind. You may notice men sporting more facial hair than usual this month. It’s Movember, also known as No Shave November. There is a 1 in 2 chance of developing prostate cancer by the time a man reaches the age 70.

Right now there is a facial hair contest at Memorial Regional Cancer Center in South Bend to bring light to men's health issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health issues.

In 2013 alone, there were almost 240,000 new cases of prostate cancer reported.

"It’s a high rate, but the deaths from cancer are quite a bit lower and they're coming down I think," said Dr. David Hornback from the Memorial Regional Cancer Center. "Early detection is huge, treatments continue to improve."

Still, about 30,000 men die from prostate cancer every year.
