Big plans are on the way to the East Bank in Downtown South Bend. Construction is already underway at the River Race Townhomes.
Plus construction materials are being set-up for two apartment buildings. They'll be across from the Emporium building.
Recently developer Dave Matthews purchased the building.
He says the restaurant, hair salon, and film studio will stay in the building. But there are two vacancies that could be used for another restaurant or bar.
Plus Matthews has plans to renovate the exterior of the building, update the internet access, and address some general maintenance issues that have been neglected over time.
“The East Bank Village is really about the arts,” says Matthews. “It’s a sense of community, people with energy, creativity that are drawn to the river and making this area just exciting and fun.”
One tenant, The Mole Hole, will likely be leaving the Emporium building.
Matthews says the owner is looking to retire.
