Dentist to pay $1m in restitution for closing shop unexpectedly

MISHAWAKA The president of a major dental company has agreed to give up his state license after suddenly closing six of his Indiana offices back in 2011.

Robert Bates, president of national dental service Allcare Dental and Dentures, gave employees a two-day notice that the offices would close for two weeks. Then just days before they were set to reopen, he told them the offices would close permanently. That includes one in Mishawaka.

Patients were left without their dental records and devices they'd already paid for.

Now 95.3 FM reports that Bates will be held responsible for more than a million dollars in restitution for those patients. He faces similar action in eight other states.
