A federal grant paid-off Friday afternoon when a South Bend DWI officer arrested a woman accused of driving drunk with two kids in her car.
27-year-old Elizabeth Bayliff of South Bend rear-ended a vehicle near the corner of Chapin and Sample streets.
Almost instantly, police knew something wasn't right after smelling alcohol on Bayliff's breath.
A sobriety test showed a blood alcohol level of .16; that's two times the legal limit.
But it was her four and 10-year-old nieces in the back seat of her car that had police most concerned.
Police took the children, who were not injured, back to their parent's home.
Bayliff was booked at the St. Joe County Jail for felony drunk driving.
