There's a move in the works that could boost the nightlife in South Bend, and Thursday the City Redevelopment Commission agreed to move it one step closer to reality.

It revolves around the installation of lights that would accent the riverfront, up to a half million dollars’ worth of artistically arranged lights, to be exact.

The portion of the river being put in the spotlight lies between the bridges at Jefferson and Colfax Streets.

“It certainly would be an attraction to folks. That's an area at night, when you go over there its very under celebrated, It’s a beautiful area, one of the best looking bridges in the area with the cascades,” said Aaron Perri, Executive Director, Downtown South Bend. “The beautiful Disuvero sculpture that was put in almost 30 years ago, but all that stuff disappears at night. It’s just dark down there”.

Thursday, the City Redevelopment Commission agreed to spend $12,000 to finalize design plans.

The majority of the price tag would be covered by grants and private donations.
