South Bend, Ind. A sweet deal wrapped up Thursday that will have more than a baker’s dozen making their way to Downtown South Bend.
Owners of Yummy Cupcakes hope to operate out of their Michigan Street storefront by Valentine’s Day. The business is going into the space that used to house a South Bend Police Substation.
The bakery will sell 27 different varieties of cupcakes every day. They'll also have cupcake truffles and cupcake lollypops.
While the yummy cupcake chain started out west in California, the South Bend store will have a Michiana owner.
“You know I’ve been general manager of the Summit Club, Café Navarre and Ruth Chris Steakhouse,” says Lawrence Katz the manager of Yummy Cupcakes. “It’s nice to get into my own business and be my own boss.”
The storefront is city owned, meaning city officials have the final say over any leases. The South Bend Redevelopment Center did so Thursday, approving a five year term with Yummy Cupcakes.
