"Crunch" the turtle teaches kids about protecting animals

Curious Kids’ Discovery Zone has a special reptilian visitor for the month of February.

Crunch, a 165 pound and 150 year-old alligator snapping turtle is part of the “Turtle Travels” exhibit that opened this weekend at the Discovery Zone.

The exhibit aims to teach kids about the importance of protecting turtles, and not only highlights Crunch and other animals but includes a life-size board game for visitors to play.

“The messages are there all along in each spot. About building homes in habitats of turtles, and keeping garbage where it belongs so raccoons don't come around because they love turtle eggs. There’s a lot to it,” said Gina Mason, the educator director at Curious Kids’ Discovery Zone.

Admission is $6 a person, and the exhibit is open Wednesday through Sunday right at Silver Beach.
