Crime Watch: 'Data Dots' help police return stolen valuables

There’s a new defense against thieves that could help you get your stolen property back.

“Data Dots” kits contain a small vial of adhesive and a little packet of pepper flake sized Mylar chips that have serial numbers embedded on them. Once you adhere them to your valuables all you have to do is register the kit with its specific serial number in the system.

The dots are practically invisible. When stolen items are recovered, evidence techs can detect them and match the serial numbers to the owners.

The kits cost $25 with half of the proceeds going to benefit the Crime Stoppers program.
