Crime Watch: Brutal home invasion

A brutal home invasion remains unsolved in Berrien County.

A 61-year-old woman was badly beaten and robbed on Friday, July 13.

“She was home alone, in her home, in the 8700 block of East Road in Lakeside, which is just north of New Buffalo near Lake Michigan,” Lt. Cindy Kilgore of Crime Stoppers said. “She was watching the evening news, the late news, and she had fallen asleep. She left her doors unlocked, which was typical in that community. It’s a very quiet community. And she awakened to see this man standing there dressed completely in black, including a mask and gloves. She said who are you and he made a strange comment in response, something about I’m here for medical attention, and suddenly he hit her in the head with an object.”

Family members had a fundraiser and are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

The victim gave permission to release photos of her after the beating. We want to warn you that they are graphic. You can find them by clicking on the photo above.

If you have any information please call Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP or 800-342-STOP.
