Just before the rain arrived Saturday afternoon, fire crews were out battling a large field fire in dry weather that spanned three-quarters of a mile.

It started around 4:15 in the 4000 block of Lincolnway East in Mishawaka.

That's just behind the Princess City Center, which houses several businesses.

Crews from Penn Township and Mishawaka Fire Departments responded to the scene and were able to control the flames quickly.

Officials believe the fire was started by sparks from a train that passed through.

No one was injured, and no structures were damaged.
