Crews battle house fire in New Carlisle

A mother and her two children are without a home after a morning fire in New Carlisle destroyed their two story log cabin.

Firefighters from several departments, including Three Oaks, Warren Township, Clay Fire and Galien, responded to the call from a neighbor about heavy smoke coming from the 51000-block of Timothy Road, near the intersection of Darden.

Crews battled the blaze for at least an hour, and it took them even longer to put out "hot spots" through heavy smoke.

According to New Carlisle Fire Chief, Josh Schweizer, "The wind contributes to how it spreads. The wind comes across and feeds the fire with oxygen, creates a little bit more of a hazard."

Schweizer added that no one was injured during the blaze, saying, “everyone was thankfully out of the house on their way to school.”

Although no one was harmed, the house itself appears to be a total loss.
