The season is winding down for the South Bend Silver Hawks. Regular season games end in late August, but playoff tickets go on sale Thursday, August 1 at 10 a.m.
It has been a successful season for the minor league baseball team, both athletically and in crowd attendance. The Silver Hawks made the playoffs for the first time since 2009, and the Cove broke the record for attendance on July 3, with over 7,200 fans at the game.
According to Silver Hawks President, Joe Hart, much of the success is due to a supportive fan base and stadium updates.
"The biggest thing is, obviously, when we have a full house, the players love it," said Hart. "It's a lot of excitement, it just creates that energy and gets the adrenaline going."
Prices are another factor that drive bigger crowds. "We've really tried to make it about family entertainment, and with that comes the affordability" said Hart. "With the economy the way it is still, we wanted to give everybody the opportunity to come out to the ballpark that wants to. So, on Tuesday, it's buy one ticket get one free, on Wednesday's we do kids eat free."
The first home playoff game is on September 5th at Coveleski Stadium. Tickets go on sale Thursday at 10 a.m. For more information, visit the Silver Hawks website.
