South Bend, Ind. The construction of a new U.S. 31 between South Bend and Plymouth didn't put the Country Convenience Store out of business. But it did put them out of the gasoline business.
About a month ago, the pumps were shut down and the gas tanks emptied. The State of Indiana bought part of the property to accommodate the widening of Kern Road.
It's possible the business may be able to relocate the pumps on the other side of the property. In the meantime, the Country Convenience Store doors remain open. Although the development was a minor inconvenience to the fire station next door.
The Southwest Central Fire Territory had to find someplace else to buy its diesel fuel.
