Plastic bags may soon be off limits to help get rid of yard waste in South Bend.

On Monday, the South Bend Council is expected to discuss a proposal on the ban.

Mayor Buttigieg and the Department of Solid Waste and Organic Resources have urged people to switch to paper bags instead of plastic, when bagging leaves and grass clippings.

When plastic bags get tossed in with other yard waste, the city most then spend the time and money to separate the waste and the plastic.
