Construction begins for new Mishawaka memory care facility

The need for memory care in the United States will double by the year 2040.

But a new memory care facility being built in Mishawaka could provide patients with the care they need.

On Thursday folks gathered for the official groundbreaking of Northwood Village at Edison Lakes, located on Day Road, just east of Filbert.

The 45000 square-foot, 51 room facility will treat residents with memory care issues like alzheimer’s disease and dementia and anyone with a brain injury who needs special attention.

“We have an extreme passion to take care of our seniors,” described Northwoods Village President and COE Dane Slabaugh. “With 11,000 people turning 65 a day, there's a very high need. It's very rewarding to know that we are enhancing the quality of life in seniors and memory care residents today.”

The facility is scheduled to be open by December of this year.
