It looks like the third time was the charm, for efforts to expand commercial activity along State Road 23 between Mishawaka and Granger.
Wednesday final approval was given to build two office buildings on what is now residential property at State Road 23 and Brick. Two previous attempts to rezone the same property were proposed in the past but withdrawn after questions surfaced
“At one point I think the goal was to keep commercial property west of Capital Avenue and State Road 23, but over the last several years, as I said there have been seven other businesses that located in that quarter mile,” says Attorney Stephen Studer of the Krieg, DeVault LLP. “So this really is the next line which is the next light. The light after that goes pretty far into Granger so this makes sense to develop that quarter mile.”
The developer points out that the office zoning at 23 and Brick will serve as a buffer between the commercial development to the west, and residential development to the east.
