Commemorating MLK at the Kroc Corps

People from around the area came together on Sunday to celebrate the 23rd annual commemoration service of Martin Luther King Jr.

This year for the first time, the Kroc Corps Community Center in South Bend hosted the event, and people came and gathered to listen to a handful of reverends speak, and listen to a mix of choir groups from the surrounding area.

Those in charge said they were not surprised with the tremendous turnout for the service.

“This, it’s important for the community to have togetherness, that is what Martin wanted us to be, all of us the same. There is no difference in us,” said Co. Sgt. Maj. Johnnye Gibbs of the Salvation Army.

To continue celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., Gibbs said there will be a breakfast held on Monday, Jan. 21, and other activities throughout the rest of the week.
