The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department is re-examing a cold case from 1981 in hopes new DNA evidence will lead to a suspect.
They are asking for help from the public that might lead to an arrest of an unsolved homicide of Juanita Boyd.
Boyd was 31 when she was found dead in the trunk of her green 1970 Pontiac Catalina in a field just off of Forrester Road, half mile north of the Indiana Toll Road. She was found strangled and stabbed.
Boyd was last seen at Snyder’s Corner Tavern in LaPorte. She was reported missing a day later and discovered in the car five days later.
Evidence that had been preserved in 1981 by crime scene technicians has been resubmitted to the Indiana State Police Crime Lab in hopes that modern DNA technology can assist in identifying a potential suspect.
Retired investigators from the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office, La Porte and Michigan City Police departments and Indiana State Police who were involved in the initial investigation have been sought out to provide insight into details of their investigation.
Anyone with potential information about the unsolved murder of Juanita Boyd is encouraged to contact the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at (219) 326-7700 or (219) 879-3530.
