South Bend welcomes some of the best and brightest young computer minds to town for a one-year fellowship, beginning Thursday.

Reed Duecy Gibbs, Dave Guarino, and Tamara Manik-Perlman will help the city with technology projects through the year, including the development of a 311 phone line.

Read more about each candidate on the Code for America web site.

South bend is one of nine cities chosen to take part in the program.

Some examples of projects code fellows have completed in the past include a web product to track school buses in real time in Boston. They’ve also created a program to see exactly how local sales tax dollars were being spent.

The goal of the fellows for South Bend is to make government more efficient and transparent.
