In Elkhart, a building that once housed a carriage and harness manufacturer.
That building at 700 West Beardsley was abandoned some five years ago, and has fallen into serious disrepair.
Thursday, plans to demolish the building were announced now that the city has received a $500,000 state grant to pay for the work.
The property was abandoned about five years ago and has since been damaged by fire and vandalism.
“One particular fire as of recent, the windows have been being broken into for probably years, it’s slowly more and more has been happening, “ said Cindy Lindahl, who owns property nearby. “Were just really happy that its coming down, sooner the better. It’s been a long time coming”
The state grant paying for the demolition comes from the Indiana office of community and rural affairs.
