Developing South Bend's Ignition Park is a dirty job. In fact, the next step involves moving some 70,000 cubic yards of excavated dirt that has piled up on the site south of Sample Street, across from the police station.

Environmental regulations prevent the dirt from being moved off site so the city now plans to use it to grade the entire site.

The work is expected to cost about $530,000. The job will be put out for bid in January.
