New Beginnings Church in South Bend kicked off its “Biggest Loser” program on Sunday, but weight loss was not the only part of the church’s health initiative. New Beginnings also teamed up with the South Bend Medical Foundation for a blood drive.
Close to 26 pints of blood were donated on Sunday morning, a small but important contribution to the community during a time when donations tend to be low.
“Donations are always needed,” said Melissa Weed an employee at the South Bend Medical Foundation, “around the holidays we run short on O-Neg, O-Positive. O-Neg is universal, O-positive is most common, so we need that as well.”
People who donated say they were excited to start off their healthy program by doing something that would benefit someone else.
