A young child is injured after finding a loaded gun in his parent's home.
Around 7 a.m. Sunday Morning, police were called to the 700-block of South 27th St. in South Bend's River Park neighborhood.
There, they found a boy, 3, with a gunshot wound to his wrist.
An investigation determined the toddler opened an unlocked safe in the living room where he found the gun.
The blast from the weapon woke the boy's mother who was asleep on a couch.
Paramedics transported the boy to the hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Police did not arrest his mother, despite the unsecured gun safe.
