On August 10, County Metro Homicide was contacted by the St. Joseph County Police Department in reference to a deceased male at a home in New Carlisle.

Matthew Eddy, 24

Matthew Eddy, 24, has been charged with Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor, a Level 6 Felony, in connection with the August 10th death of Andrew Tarquino, Jr.

On August 10 at approximately 9:30 a.m., County Metro Homicide was contacted by the St. Joseph County Police Department in reference to a deceased male at a home in the 51000 block of Timothy Road in New Carlisle.

This male was identified as Andrew Jerome Tarquino, Jr., 18.

SJCPD asked for CMHU's assistance in the death investigation, given the unknown circumstances surrounding the death of the male.

After an autopsy, the forensic pathologist determined that the proximate cause of Tarquino's death was acute ethanol (alcohol) intoxication.

Eddy reportedly told police that a group of underage adults asked him to buy them alcohol, and that he purchased beer and liquor for them.

An autopsy showed Tarquino's blood alcohol level was .40, roughly five times the legal limit for driving.

Probable cause was found and an arrest warrant ordered issued. Bond was set at $10,000 Corporate surety or $1,000 cash.

This remains an active and on-going investigation.
