Five people miraculously walked away with only minor injuries after their car crashed into a St. Joseph County home on Thursday afternoon.
The incident happened just after 4:00 p.m., investigators say the car was heading northbound on SR-23 when it was nearly broadsided by a pick-up truck turning left off of Osborn Rd. To avoid colliding, the driver of the car swerved to their right and slammed into the side of a house.
The pick-up truck’s driver told investigators that the sun glare was so bad that he could not see the oncoming car when he turned.
Inside the crashed vehicle were two adults and three children, none of whom were seriously hurt. Similarly, no one inside the house was harmed, but the crash did cause damage to the exterior of the home.
Officials say the five people traveling in the car were either wearing seat belts or were secured in a child safety seat. Police added that those safety precautions, along with the vehicle’s airbags, likely saved their lives.
