ELKHART Water poured into the streets after a driver crashed into a fire hydrant at a busy intersection in Elkhart.

Before 11 Wednesday night, the driver, who just recently turned 21, swerved to avoid a construction cone at the intersection of Nappanee and Indiana Avenue in Elkhart. She hit a fire hydrant instead, which caused her car to flip on its top.

The driver wasn't seriously injured, and was taken straight to the Elkhart County Jail. Her mother says that's because she had been drinking with friends.

Police closed the road while the water spilled from the hydrant. There’s no word yet of any charges against the driver.
