Car crashes into train blocking several Warsaw intersections

A train and SUV collided in downtown Warsaw Friday morning causing no major injuries but closing several railway crossings.

It happened around 8:30 a.m.

It was a very blunt immediate sound like they made an immediate stop. It wasn't where they had to make a stop because they had to drop something off, it was immediate," says resident, Christopher Biltz.

The train was travelling north and crashed into the vehicle, heading west on Market Street, one block east of State Road 15.

"The train red lights were on and you could hear the horn and the car just ran and tried to beat the train and it hit the train and it got smashed in its front trunk and all of its parts," says witness, Valinda Marshall.

"There were a lot of policemen and ambulances working on the train part where the car hit," Marshall continues.

The 132 car train was operated by Norfolk Southern.

Seven crossings from Fort Wayne Street to Ranch Road are being closed while the company examines and moves the train.

Despite the wrecked car, driver 42-year old Sandra Casanova, didn't report any injuries or pain.

She was taken to the hospital just in case. she has been released.
