A southwest Michigan certified public accountant in court on an embezzlement case has been charged in the slaying of a prominent 70-year-old colleague.

St. Joseph County District Judge Jeffrey Middleton tells that he received a complaint Thursday charging 36-year-old Andy Brown with murder shortly after getting an order to dismiss the embezzlement charge.

The Kalamazoo man was arraigned Thursday in Centreville on first-degree murder and gun charges. Middleton ordered him held on a $2 million bond. A preliminary examination is scheduled Oct. 31.

David Locey was found shot to death Oct. 2 in his accounting office in Sherman Township, near Sturgis.

Defense lawyer Michael Hills says he learned about the murder charge Thursday after Brown had been held 14 days in the embezzlement case.
