After weeks without snow, plow drivers have been put to the test cleaning up after mother nature lately.

“Frankly, I think they were getting impatient without the snow,” Mayor Pete Buttigieg, (D) South Bend, jokes.

Buttigieg says the cold weather has been a challenge for the city because it makes the salt less effective for melting snow and ice.

The mayor recently joined a national coalition called “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.” He says his goal for the city is to promote “common sense” legislation that doesn’t violate 2nd Amendment rights.

“I’m not saying gun control policy is going to solve everything,” he says, but adds that background checks are a good start.

Buttigieg also raved about Ron Teachman who will be sworn in as South Bend Chief of Police next Wednesday, Jan. 30.

The January chat wasn’t all business though. Buttigieg revealed his prowess as a pianist, announcing that he will perform Rhapsody in Blue with the South Bend Symphony Orchestra on Saturday, February 16.

“It’s a little technical. It’s got a lot of that flying finger stuff,” he says. “It’s a great way to promote the arts.”

However he says he won’t be leaving his day job any time soon.
