A backyard birthday party took a turn for the worse when a Van Buren County woman was shot, with what police are referring to as a “high-powered rifle.”
The 34-year-old woman told police she was getting ready to take a sip of her soda pop when the bullet shot through her can and directly into her arm on Saturday afternoon.
Officers say several people and multiple long guns were found at the very location the gun was initially fired, but that location was nearly one mile away from where the bullet struck the woman. By the time police arrived at the location where the trigger was pulled, the shooter already left.
When police tracked the shooter down they seized a weapon and will now compare the ammunition used in the gun to the round left in the victim’s arm. Those found still at the site of the shooting deny that any reckless gun firing took place.
