Buchanan residents came together Saturday to help raise money for the victims who lost nearly everything in a massive apartment fire less than one month ago.
It happened back in August at the Parkside Terrace Apartments in the 800 block of North Red Bud Trail.
Several fire departments were called to the scene to help fight the flames which were sparked by a grease fire.
Luckily, no one was injured but the blaze left 35 people without a home.
You couldn't have asked for a better night for members of the Buchanan community to gather for a benefit concert Saturday in honor of the Parkside Terrace fire victims.
“The golden rule is treat people like you would like to be treated yourself. If this happened to me, I would definitely want someone, somewhere to know that I have a community that is going to back me up,” says band member Robert Marker.
Folks gathered at the Centennial Park Shelter to enjoy food, music thanks to the 5th Gear Band, raffles and more. The best part, all of the money will go to the victims because everything was donated.
“It’s fantastic to know that everybody would come together, everybody can rely on everybody and nobody will have to hurt. Again, being such a small town, you couldn’t ask for more,” says Rose Reybuck. Reybuck had a few friends living in the apartments that caught on fire.
For those who were there the day of the fire say just thinking about it still brings tears.
“What if it would have been us, you know what I mean? We wouldn’t have nothing either because we already don’t have a lot,” says Stephanie Spray.
But that didn't stop her and her family from coming out to support the cause.
“I can’t really help out too much but I figured maybe just being here and you know, seeing if I can help do anything around here or just to be here just for moral support even,” continues Spray.
With the help of this community these victims will be back on their feet in no time.
“They are slowly building back up and they are doing better, they are doing better,” adds Reybuck.
Now, all of the money will be given to the Redbud Area Ministries who will hold on to it for the victims.
