ST. JOSEPH COUNTY A tree that came crashing down during Tuesday’s strong storms destroyed a family's hard work.

Not only did Mother Nature leave a mess of fallen debris in their backyard, but it also damaged their brand new chicken coop. The couple says they'd just finished building it before the severe weather struck.

Rocco Simeri says his wife was out tending to the chickens when the storm approached.

“I heard a big crash, and that tree just split and fell on the roof of the chicken coop,” he says. “My wife was just horrified because she was standing more than 15 feet away from it. I thought she got hit, but luckily it missed her.”

Thankfully, the chickens weren't hurt either. The family plans to rebuild once the tree is removed.
