Two teenagers are lucky to have walked away from an accident Thursday when a brakes failure caused them to roll from a roadway, into a park below.
Reporting partners at the Elkhart Truth say 18-year-old Brett Smith purchased the 1987 Chevy Station wagon just three hours before the crash.
Smith said everything was fine when he bought it, but the brake pedal went straight to the ground as he attempted to slow down on Beardsley Avenue in Elkhart.
He said he didn't want to take a chance on hurting anyone, so he swerved off the road. The vehicle landed upside down in Beardsley Park.
Fortunately both Smith and his girlfriend were okay.
