Blues & Ribs Fest to raise money for special needs kids park

There is a special cause behind an event that will take place in South Bend this Saturday. The second-annual Blues and Ribs Fest kicks off at noon, this time, at Coveleski stadium.

Five bands will take the stage, including Jimmie Vaughan and the Tilt a Whirl Band.

The proceeds will support the design and construction of Miracle Park to serve children with special needs.

“We want a park that a family could come to and spend the day perhaps play a little league game softball game, picnic, be able to use some other facilities at the park that are designed and equipped for special needs kids,” said Phil St. Clair, South Bend Parks Superintendent.

A Miracle Park site near the Blackthorn Golf Course is being considered. It is hoped that park construction would begin in 2013.

NewsCenter 16 will be live at the Blues and Ribs Fest on Saturday morning.
