Opening day for one local berry business started Monday and kicked off with a big success.
Hundreds stopped by The Organic Blueberry Ranch in Mishawaka on Monday to see if all the talk about what should be an excellent crop was true.
According to visitors at the ranch, the berries look more like bunches of grapes because of their large size. Owner, John Nelson says that's because the late spring worked in favor of his crop.
"We got through that cold, that May period when we could get hurt by frost," Nelson said. "We got through that in fine shape. We had a nice moisture in June. Even though we can add moisture, the natural stuff is best. Just a very nice, beautiful crop this summer," Nelson said.
