Getting around downtown South Bend was a whole lot easier on two wheels Sunday as hundreds of spectators cheered-on participants in the second-annual Subaru Race the Bend Bike Series.
The event, which included races for all competitive levels, took riders along a half-mile loop throughout the heart of the city.
In total, 138 bikers participated, cruising down the pavements at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.
"Like motor racing, it's that sense of danger and the speed,” said Dave Beaverson, the Co-Director of the series. “Like NASCAR, there is a lot of tactics and the drafting is really important. The guy behind is really doing a lot less work than the guy breaking the wind."
Organizers say events like this help South Bend make a name for itself within the competitive biking world.
