Some students at Bethel College took time out from studying Thursday to roll up their sleeves, and help save lives.

Bethel Student-Athletes teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive on campus Thursday, hoping to score donations and give back to the community.

Event organizer and Senior Softball Player Danielle Reilly has been part of the effort for the past three years. Not only does she recruit volunteers and help out at the drive, but she's also committed to donating blood herself.

“I've had friends and family who have had cancer and who have needed blood in the past and it's just really important to me to just help save lives,” says Student Athlete Coordinator Danielle Reilly. “I just love doing it. There are kids in the cancer unit right now that need this blood, and if you can help out that would be so great."

Danielle says their goal Thursday was to collect 100 units of blood. Each donation can help save up to three lives.
