Berrien Springs man killed while getting the morning paper

A man in a medical scooter was struck by a car and killed outside his home in Berrien Springs Tuesday, while he was getting the morning paper.

It happened on Linco Road, near Hollywood Road around 6:40 Tuesday morning. 78-year-old Ronald Maier crossed the road in his scooter and got his paper from his mailbox. He was struck and killed when crossing the road back to his house.

So far the investigation has found darkness combined with lack of lighting or reflective clothes as a contributing factor. Police continue to look into the crash.
