Benton Harbor residents given second chance to keep Police Department

Benton Harbor residents will be given a second chance to keep their Police Department.

Voters there just rejected a millage renewal request, and the lost revenue may force the City Police Department to disband.

Now residents are being asked if they would support another mechanism to collect tax money called a special assessment with the proceeds going to keep the police department open.

Public hearings on a possible special assessment have not yet been scheduled.
