BENTON HARBOR Benton Harbor may vote sooner than expected on an income tax to help the financially struggling city.

The Herald Palladium reports that the vote may come as soon as November, instead of May. Officials say it’s because the proposal has gained so much support already.

The tax rate hasn't been specified, but the maximum would be 2.4 percent for residents and 1.2 percent for non-residents.

Supporters are trying to have a proposal drafted to move the vote to November. They're hoping the draft will be ready for discussion by the next town hall meeting on Monday, July 1.
