A mother of three continues to fight for her life in the hospital after a shooting that left one dead Friday night.
Around 11:30 p.m., emergency crews with the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety were called to 791 Ogden St. Arriving on the scene, they found two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Police say Gary Alilovich, 25, was shot multiple times and declared dead at the scene.
Heather Poe, 35, was transported and treated at a nearby hospital for multiple gunshot wounds. As of Saturday morning, Poe was listed in critical condition.
"I been praying so hard because she got to pull through, she just got to pull through," said Poe's friend Sandra Gordon. "She got three kids."
Eyewitness accounts pointed police in the direction of siblings, Jovan Davis, 28, of Benton Harbor and Ashley Davis, 19, of Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Witnesses say an argument broke out inside the home after Alilovich tried to stop Jovan Davis from assaulting Poe. Jovan Davis is accused of pulling out a gun and firing at Alilovich and Poe. Afterward, his sister allegedly took a turn shooting both victims.
"It's so strange how you can be with someone one night and then the same night they're just laying there in critical condition," Gordon said.
She called Alilovich a "hero" for trying to break up the fight before shots were fired.
"It's just so sad he had to lose his life during that altercation," she said. "But, I thank him. I know it's hard for his family, but we praying that Heather can pull through."
Jovan Davis was arrested on suspicion of with open murder, assault with intent to murder, felony firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Ashley Davis is charged with open murder, felony firearm, and assault.
Both siblings were booked at the Berrien County Jail as the police investigation continues.
