There's mounting confusion over the dismissal of Benton Harbor’s new High School principal.
Our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium say Superintendent Leonard Seawood accepted principal Timothy Harris' resignation via email. However Harris says he never actually resigned, but instead was forced out.
In May the district hired Harris, but shortly thereafter it announced it would lay off all 65 high school teachers, rehire 30, and fill the other 35 spots with new blood.
Harris told administrators he needed a turnaround specialist to train those new teachers. It was a request he says the district verbally agreed to, but failed to follow through on.
A heated email exchange between Seawood and Harris ultimately led to the principal’s dismissal.
Superintendent Seawood was not available for comment, when NewsCenter 16 stopped by his office Tuesday.
