Starke County, Ind. If you're planning on spending this Fourth of July holiday on the water, there's one spot in Michiana you may need to avoid.
According to our reporting partners at WKVI Radio, Bass Lake Beach was recently closed by the state sanitarian for safety reasons.
Officials said it didn't have the proper emergency devices required for the beach to be in operation. The owners were given until July 19 to resolve the issue, but no word yet on if they've done so.
In response to this and other problems with the beach, Starke County Commissioners are now considering creating a park and recreation board.
