ELKHART, Ind. A barn fire broke out in Elkhart County Sunday evening. It happened at the intersection of C. R. 26 and C.R. 1. No one was injured. Neighboring houses were far enough away and did not catch fire.
When crews arrived, two-thirds of the barn was burnt and destroyed. Firefighters had trouble getting water but eventually worked it out.
Five townships responded to the call, including Concord, Waukarusa, Baugo, and Penn.
Firefighters estimate that the barn was about 3,000 feet from the main road, making it difficult to deliver water.
"We weren't sure how far we were off,” said Jim Ward, a captain on the Baugo Fire Department. “So, we had to grab hoses, hook them up, but we weren't far enough. So, we had to get some more, take it back down there and then we finally got enough to where we could extinguish the fire.”
First responders are still investigating the cause of the fire.
