Elkhart County, Ind. We're learning more about a fatal accident in Elkhart County that killed an Amish man early Wednesday morning.

It happened on U.S. 20 just east of State Road 13, near Middlebury just after 4:30 a.m.

Police say Elmer Miller, 64, of Middlebury was riding his bike on the south shoulder of the road when an SUV, driving westbound on U.S. 20 at C.R. 18, left its lane and struck him from behind.

The SUV was driven by Lyle Otto, 20, of Topeka, Indiana. We're told by officers at the scene that Miller's bike did have flashing lights on it.

Miller had reportedly been on his way to his longtime job at Jayco, an RV manufacturer when the crash occured just a quarter of a mile away from his destination.

"I went through here, and he was probably the first guy that came to my mind, and I got to work and just asked if everybody was there, and they said there was one missing, so I came back down here, and unfortunately it was him," said Maynard Miller, operations manager at Jayco.

The crash is being investigated by the Elkhart County Sheriff's Dept. and the Elkhart County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team.
