An Elkhart man has been convicted of trying to shoot and kill a teenager back in May of last year.

The Elkhart Truth reports that a jury found 21-year-old Jose Alejandro guilty of attempted murder, for shooting 19-year-old Flavio Contreras in the head on May 23rd, 2012. He faces 50 years in prison for the shooting.

The prosecution is also trying to add criminal gang enhancement, which would double the sentence to 100 years. That portion of the trial begins Wednesday.
